Yesterday I was looking through some Antique Stores and came across a stunning small antique milners cash box.
Now, these items are slowly getting harder and harder to find as we all slowly move away from cash thanks to the dawn of online banking and the smartphone effect.
Infact, it's been a good few years since I last spotted one that I liked this much. I bought it straight away and got it home with the plan of fully restoring it back to bare metal and re-painting. Now, i'm not a massive fan of doing this but usually with these Cash Boxes it's necessary because they've either rotted out or been broken open.
To my surpirse, and relief, the original paintwork is very good and it hasn't rotted out at all. Infact, even the locking mechanism is smooth and intact.
I did however strip it back, clean and service everything as its good practice to make sure the lock and the hinges are lubricated correctly. Making sure not to thread any of the original screws as I worked!
Once finished, I re-assembled everything and sealed all of the paintwork with restoration wax to really make the paintwork pop and stop any moisture getting in!
You can see the Milners Cash box in my listings now.
Thanks
Louis
